What is This?
Hello
Cobble is a place for creative people at UCLA to work on their projects.
What does Cobble do?
Here, you can post about things you've made, what you're working on, or what you'd like to be doing. You can also browse other people's projects and posts to see what UCLA's artistic community is up to. We hope you can use the site to find fellow artists and collaborate with them, across all disciplines, skills, and types of projects.
Who is Cobble for?
If you're working on something, Cobble is here to help you; if you're at a dry spell and want to get your hands dirty, Cobble is looking for you. Whether you're a musician, poet, or post-ironic Dadaist, Cobble is a place for you and your passions to be expressed and shared.
Mission
To foster a community of driven creators at UCLA and provide a platform which enables the pursuit of their most outlandish ambitions.
Website Functionality
cobble.page
is the digital interface for members of Cobble to connect,
share their work, and consume the work of their peers.
Creation
- Projects: the overarching thing that you're working on — likely along the lines of an album, a film, a manuscript, a painting, or anything of that nature. The scope of this is completely up to you. If you think it's big enough to be a project, then it is. They are featured on the Project Gallery.
- Posts: the primary form of communication for projects. If your project is creating an album, for example, you might create posts to find musicians, or to get feedback on a song. You can associate your post with a project, or you can let it stand on its own. Posts show up on the Post Feed, where they can be filtered according to discipline or other tags.
- Your Portfolio: your personal page which displays everything you have put on Cobble. Kind of like an instagram page, your portfolio is a place to show your work to others. You can link to your portflio with
cobble.page/@your-username
and see the portfolios of others by going to their link or clicking on their username.
Consumption
- Post Feed: the epicenter of Cobble. Everything that is happening right now on Cobble. See who is working on what, or even what's happening tonight.
- Project Gallery: the reason that Cobble exists — the actual projects that people are working on. Where people have poured their heart out: their projects.
- Search: use the search bar to find specific posts, projects, and people on cobble!
Collaboration
- Hit them up, it's not weird!: Once you've stumbled upon a post, project, or person you think is cool, you can let them know via the contact information they've provided. Cobble users must verify their UCLA emails in order to register and post, so rest assured that these people are your fellow peers.
- Comments: If you see something you like you can comment on their post to let them know. They will know it's you who commented!
- Emoji Reactions: Words are not enough, let someone know who you feel about their post by leaving them a miniature picture!
- Following Projects: See an interesting project? Get notified about updates by following it :)
- Notifications: You receive notifications when someone comments on your post, follows a project you're a collaborator on, or a post is made under a project you follow. You can turn off email notifications in the Edit Profile panel.
The Rules
Rule #1: Disregard The Rules!
Be free! We want this to be a hands-off experience where you can do whatever you want.
Rule #2: UCLA
You must have a ucla.edu
email address in order to register
for Cobble. You do not have to make any of your personal information public,
but we will need to verify your name and existence.
Rule #3: Don't be racist
- Black Lives Matter.
Rule #4: Look out for each other!
Apart from the people who are down in the dirty actually putting the website together, Cobble doesn't have any community moderators (yet!). Since we can't personally moderate the site 100% of the time, we want you to police each other whenever things are looking icky.
I still got questions!
